New Fall Paintings

Marsh Glow, oil on gallery wrap canvas, 12x12. SOLD
This was painted at Scarborough Marsh in October on one of the last good painting days of the season. We had so many wonderful days to paint outside this summer, it's hard to adjust to late fall. But we were lucky to get this beautiful day at one of our favorite places to paint when the fall colors were in full force. The marsh was very colorful this day. There are more fall paintings posted on my website: http://www.kathleendaughan.com/. Look at the porfolio pages under oil paintings.

Kathleen Daughan & Caren-Marie Michel Paint Coastal Maine

The opening at the Damariscotta River Grille on Thursday was wonderful. Here are Caren and I at 4:00 wondering if anyone would come.
They came -old friends, new friends, artist friends, relatives, folks from the art community, and friends of the restaurant.
Even friends of friends. And they bought some paintings. Everyone agreed that the reception put on by the Damariscotta River Grille was one of the best they had ever been to. Many of our guests stayed and dined. Delicious.

Thanks Damariscotta River Grille. If you couldn't come to the reception go up to Damariscotta whenever you can. The show is up until November 1 and the food at the Grille is the best.

Damariscotta River Grille Show

................................................Yesterday I hung, with a lot of help, 41 paintings for the Damariscotta River Grille Show. Since several are triptychs it's actually 56 paintings. That has about depleted my inventory. Caren hung 31 paintings and will add 7 more before the reception. That will make more than 90 paintings in this show. Hope to see you Thursday.

Oil on cradled birch panel, 6x6 with 1.5" profile
A couple of weeks ago Pastel Painters of Maine painted at Wolfe Neck Farm in Freeport. What a great view they have. This is their view of the islands of Casco Bay. Accepted

Both of these paintings have been accepted into the Barn Gallery Annual Juried Show in Ogunquit. The Barn Gallery has such a wonderful and long history of supporting artists. My college art professor was the well known Ogunquit painter John Laurent, son of the Ogunquit sculptor Robert Laurent. John used to take us as students to their galleries in the waning days of the early colony. All of the artists of the historic Ogunquit art colony had strong connections to and some were founders of the Barn Gallery. I'm very honored to have been once again selected for their annual juried show.

Pemaquid 5

Oil on cradled birch panel, 6 x 6 x 1.5
I spent the (long) weekend painting with my Pastel Painter friends at our annual Pemaquid Retreat. We had a fabulous time despite a lot of inclement weather. Something close to 100 wonderful paintings were created by 21 artists. This is the first of the paintings I did on Friday. The weather was cooperating for the most part that day although the fog kept rolling in and out. Right here it was sunny and warm. I hope you can see in this painting how much I love this place, especially when I can paint there with so many great friends.

Casco Bay 2

Pastel on Wallis, 6x12 image, 12x18 in a gold plein air frame
This is the second of the 5 plein air paintings I did last week. Casco Bay from the Eastern Prom. This view includes Cousins Island, Little John, Great Chebeague, Little Chebeague and Great Diamond. I am very lucky to be able to look at this view everyday. This painting captures the mood of Casco Bay exactly as I feel it when I come over Munjoy Hill and see the bay stretched out in front of me. Gotta Love Portland. You can purchase this painting from my website:

Casco Bay 1

Pastel on French Handmade Paper, 5x7, gold plein air frame

I've been painting on the Eastern Prom in Portland this week with some of my friends. This is the first piece I did on Wednesday. Casco Bay as seen from the Prom is one of the most challenging seascapes to paint. The colors constantly change by the minute depending on clouds, atmosphere, fog etc. On Wednesday the changes were never ending. Makes for an interesting painting experience. This painting is available on my website:

Welcome to the home page of my blog. This is where I post new work as well as updates on my artistic life.
