Pemaquid of course

The Islands of John's Bay, watercolor, 6x6, 35.00

Yesterday, Dec 1, was the first day of the December Facebook painting challenge. The challenge is to make 20 paintings or sketches before the holidays. Since I've been traveling so much I haven't held a paintbrush for over 2 months. I really needed something to get me back into the studio. Yesterday was an incredibly beautiful and warm day for Maine in December. I had planned to paint in the studio but could not pass up the chance to go to my favorite plein air spot, Pemaquid Point. This is a 6x6 watercolor. Even though it was a sunny day I still needed to work from the car. Watercolor is the best medium under those circumstances. This painting is available on my website along with several other watercolor paintings.  www.kathleendaughan.com  Click on the portfolio link on the left and then choose the watercolor link. These small paintings make great holiday gifts.

Plein Air Painting

It's been a long, cold, snowy winter and now a long, cold, drizzly spring. Hard to get out to do much plein air. I thought today I would post my daily painting wall that I've put together in the studio. I'm hoping the weather will improve so that I can add more paintings to this wall. The individual paintings shown here can be seen on my website: www.kathleendaughan.com. Just click on the portfolio link and then on the daily painting box. Better still, stop by the studio and see them for yourself. These little paintings are fun to collect. I will also accept commissions for paintings of your special place.

Mount Washington

Last week I took a trip to Mount Washington in Bretton Woods, NH. I was lucky enough to spend some time at the base of the Presidential Range and watch the changing colors of the mountains as the day progressed. I've done 4 watercolors on this subject. You can see them all on my pleinair blog (A Plein Air Painters Journal) which is over on my website: www.kathleendaughan.com

Daily Paintings

Gilsland Winter 3, watercolor on handmade paper, 4"x5"
I've started doing daily paintings in watercolor from my car. It's still too cold to paint outside but it's been too long waiting for warmer temps. Many of these paintings will be done at Gilsland Farm, the Audubon sanctuary in Falmouth, Maine. I've added a new blog page just for these paintings. You can see it listed over in the righthand side bar. You can also see these watercolors in my website portfolio, look under watercolors at http://www.kathleendaughan.com/
If you're lucky enough to be in Maine you can stop by the studio to see the paintings in person.

Valentine Bazaar at Lucid Stage

This is one of the fun art pins I've made for the Valentine Bazaar at Lucid Stage. You can see all of them in my studio at Lucid during the festivities on Sunday, Feb. 13, from 10-4. It's going to be a fun day. Balloons, face painting, craft vendors and continuous performances by a variety of entertainers. Something for all the family. We hope you stop by 29 Baxter Blvd, Portland.

Meet Ruby

Ruby is our new studio dog. Well, really she's a theater dog but when she visits my studio she's a studio dog. Isn't she cute?? Already she has learned not to bark at theater visitors. Come and visit Ruby, me and Ruby's mother Liz at Lucid Studio, 29 Baxter Blvd, Portland. She'd love to see you.

Welcome to the home page of my blog. This is where I post new work as well as updates on my artistic life.

You will find a complete portfolio of my work on my website: Kathleen Daughan Fine Art where paintings can also be purchased. Smaller paintings and jewelry are in my Etsy shop: www.kathleendaughan.etsy.com

I also have a brick and mortar gallery/studio in Nashua, N.H. in the Picker Building. Please email me for more information.
