Water's Edge, Ocean Point Maine

Pastel on Wallis, 5x5 image, framed to 12x12

It's really gloomy here today. I went to my painting table with no particular project in mind. As I was preparing some surfaces for later paintings this little piece just jumped out and said "finish me". So I did. I had started it at Ocean Point last summer. More information on the painting on the Five By Five Portfolio page. Link over on the right hand side bar.

Pemaquid III

Pastel on Wallis, 5 x5, matted to 11x13 or 12x12

It's a gray day here today. I'm thinking about May when Pastel Painters of Maine hold an artist's retreat at the Hotel Pemaquid for a weekend of painting and learning, so I decided I would finish up this painting of Pemaquid which had been started last year on a similar trip. See the Five By Five portfolio page for more details.

Sunrise on Casco Bay

Pastel on Handmade Paper, 5.5 x 5.5 image, framed to 12 x 12

As we were headed out for a day of painting in Boothbay Harbor, we passed by this scene in Casco Bay. The sun was just rising and there was a magnificent glow on the water. That's MacWorth Island on the left and the islands of Casco Bay behind.

Inner Harbor Morning

Pastel on handmade paper, 5x5, framed or matted

I haven't posted anything for 10 days but I have been painting like crazy. En Plein Air even (from the car). I've been in Rockport, Spruce Head and Boothbay Harbor. So now I should be able to post a few new paintings. This one I did in Boothbay Harbor. It was freezing, but the sun was out and kept the car warm. I'm loving the yellows now that I have learned how get the color more accurate for the posting. This painting can be purchased matted or framed. See the miniature page for information on matting and framing 5x5 or send me an email.

Scarborough Marsh #10

Pastel on Wallis, 6 x 12 image, 12 x 18 in a gold plein air frame, $350.00

It's snowing here today, again. Much too late in the year for such a day so I pretended I was out at the Marsh and finished up this piece that I had started out there in August. I made me feel like spring is just around the corner. Price includes shipping within the US

Scarborough Marsh # 9

Pastel on Wallis, 12 x12 image, 18 x 18 in a gold plein air frame, $600.00

I finally got back to painting today and of course I had to paint my favorite - Scarborough Marsh. This piece was actually started at the marsh in July and I just put the finishing touches on today. With my new camera and my new adobe skills that I've been working on I'm pleased now with the quality of my postings, especially the yellows. It takes awhile to get it all together. Shipping within the US is included in the price.

St Lawrence Auction

The St Lawrence Arts Center is a wonderful old building (a former church) on the top of Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine. That's my neighborhood. The center is mainly a performance center but this week they are holding an art auction. I have 5 pieces in the auction. There are over 50 artists represented with the opening bids starting from $20.00 to $300.00. It looks like there is something for every taste. The preview is Thursday from 6-8, the silent auction is Saturday from 1-4. For more information you can email me and I'll send it to you and give you a link to the on line preview. Hope everyone in the Portland area will plan on attending.

I met up with a regular blog viewer yesterday who reminded me that I hadn't been posting much lately. I have made 4 new portfolio pages for the blog during the last 2 weeks though, so take a look at those. Now that I've got that and some framing done I'll get back to painting and there should be a lot of new posts in the next several weeks. Keep checking in.

Welcome to the home page of my blog. This is where I post new work as well as updates on my artistic life.

You will find a complete portfolio of my work on my website: Kathleen Daughan Fine Art where paintings can also be purchased. Smaller paintings and jewelry are in my Etsy shop: www.kathleendaughan.etsy.com

I also have a brick and mortar gallery/studio in Nashua, N.H. in the Picker Building. Please email me for more information.
